[PIO] Ministry of Health announcement on new cases of COVID-19 - 30 January 2022

The Ministry of Health announces that today, 30 January 2022:

- 1 death was announced from COVID-19, bringing the total number of deaths to 731.

- 211 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, of which 74 are in serious condition. A proportion of 76.31% of hospitalized patients have no history of vaccination.

- 19 post-COVID patients who have ceased to be infectious (declassified cases) continue to be hospitalized intubated in serious condition due to COVID in an ICU.

- A total of 85,303 molecular (PCR) and antigen rapid tests have been performed.

- 2,225 (positivity rate: 2.61%) new cases of COVID-19 have been detected by the PCR and antigen rapid tests, bringing the total number of cases to 253,350.

Here are today's results in detail.

A. Deaths from COVID-19:

The 1 death announced with the final cause of death attributed to COVID-19 was:

- A male, aged 88 years, who died on 29 January at Nicosia General Hospital.

Therefore, the total number of deaths with the final cause of COVID-19 is 731, of which:

- 457 males (62.5%), and

- 274 females (37.5%).

The average age of those who died from the disease is 76.2 years.

B. Inpatients:

In total, 211 patients with COVID-19 are hospitalized in the hospitals of the OCYPY, of which 74 are in serious condition or in PICU.

Of the 74 patients in serious condition, 32 are intubated, 8 are hospitalized in an Intensive Care Unit outside of a ventilator and 34 in an Intensive Care Unit.

C. Positive cases COVID-19 (PCR test and antigen rapid test):

Of the 85,303 diagnoses performed, 4,542 were performed by the molecular method (PCR) and 80,761 by the antigen rapid test method, 2,225 cases of COVID-19 were identified, resulting in the following:

  1. 39 cases from 466 samples obtained through the contact tracing procedure of already confirmed cases.
  2. 61 cases out of 2,623 samples taken during passenger screening at Larnaca and Paphos Airports.
  3. 97 cases out of 1,070 samples taken through private initiative.
  4. 6 cases out of 179 samples taken by the Microbiological Laboratories of General Hospitals.
  5. 863 cases from 30,796 samples tested by the antigen rapid test in private clinical laboratories and pharmacies.
  6. 1,156 cases out of 49,965 samples tested by the antigen rapid test through the Ministry of Health programme.
  7. 3 cases from 204 specimens obtained under the programme of referrals by Personal Physicians and screening of special groups through the Public Health Clinics.
