[PIO] Ministry of Health announcement on new cases of COVID-19 - 14 January 2022

The Ministry of Health announces that today, 14 January 2022:

- No patient deaths with COVID-19 as the final cause of death were recorded, and therefore the total number of deaths remains 672.

- 257 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, of which 91 are in serious condition. A proportion of 73.16% of hospitalized patients have no history of vaccination.

- 18 post-COVID patients who ceased to be infectious (declassified cases) continue to be hospitalized intubated in serious condition due to COVID in an ICU.

- A total of 122,217 molecular (PCR) and antigen rapid tests have been performed.

- 3,042 (positivity rate: 2.49%) new cases of COVID-19 have been detected by the PCR and antigen rapid tests, bringing the total number of cases to 221,416.

Here are today's results in detail.

A. Deaths from COVID-19:

No deaths of patients with COVID-19 were recorded. Therefore, the total number of deaths with a final cause of COVID-19 disease remains 672, of which:

- 422 males (62.8%), and

- 250 females (37.2%).

The average age of deaths from the disease is 76 years.

B. Inpatients:

In total, 257 patients with COVID-19 are hospitalized in the hospitals of the OCYPY, of which 91 are in serious condition or in PICU.

Of the 91 patients in serious condition, 28 are intubated, 4 are hospitalized in an Intensive Care Unit outside of a ventilator and 59 in an Intensive Care Unit.

C. Positive cases COVID-19 (PCR test and rapid antigen test):

Of the 122,217 diagnoses performed, 8,416 were performed by the molecular method (PCR) and 113,801 by the antigen rapid test method, 3042 cases of COVID-19 were identified, resulting in the following:

  1. 177 cases from 1,662 samples obtained through the contact tracing procedure of already confirmed cases.
  2. 31 cases out of 2,217 samples taken during passenger screening at Larnaca and Paphos Airports.
  3. 403 cases out of 4,011 samples taken through private initiative.
  4. 33 cases out of 412 samples taken by the Microbiological Laboratories of General Hospitals.
  5. 1,491 cases from 58,299 samples tested by the antigen rapid test in private clinical laboratories and pharmacies.
  6. 906 cases out of 55,502 samples tested by the antigen rapid test through the Ministry of Health programme.
  7. 1 case from 114 specimens obtained under the programme of referrals by Personal Physicians and screening of special groups through the Public Health Clinics.
