[PIO] Ministry of Health announcement on new cases of COVID-19 - 1 February 2022

The Ministry of Health announces that today, 1 February 2022:

- 1 death was announced from COVID-19, bringing the total number of deaths to 734.

- 211 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, of which 60 are in serious condition. A proportion of 76.78% of hospitalized patients have no history of vaccination.

- 20 post-COVID patients who have ceased to be infectious (declassified cases) continue to be hospitalized intubated in serious condition due to COVID in an ICU.

- A total of 113,862 tests have been performed to detect the disease by the molecular method (PCR) and the antigen rapid test.

- 3,038 (positivity rate: 2.67%) new cases of COVID-19 have been detected by the PCR and antigen rapid tests, bringing the total number of cases to 259,784.

Here are today's results in detail.

A. Deaths from COVID-19:

The 1 death announced with the final cause of death attributed to COVID-19 was:

- Female, aged 77 years, who died on 1 February at Paphos General Hospital.

Therefore, the total number of deaths with the final cause of COVID-19 is 734, of which:

- 458 males (62.4%), and

- 276 females (37.6%).

The average age of those who died from the disease is 76.3 years.

B. Inpatients:

In total, 211 patients with COVID-19 are hospitalized in the hospitals of the OCYPY, of which 60 are in serious condition or in PICU.

Of the 60 patients in serious condition, 29 are intubated, 4 are hospitalized in an Intensive Care Unit outside of a ventilator and 27 are in an Intensive Care Unit.

C. Positive cases COVID-19 (PCR test and antigen rapid test):

Of the 113,862 diagnoses performed, 6,146 were made by the molecular method (PCR) and 107,716 by the antigen rapid test method, 3038 cases of COVID-19 were identified, resulting in the following:

  1. 107 cases from 557 samples obtained through the contact tracing procedure of already confirmed cases.
  2. 64 cases from 2,694 samples taken during passenger screening at Larnaca and Paphos Airports.
  3. 326 cases out of 2,380 samples taken through private initiative.
  4. 40 cases out of 344 samples taken by the Microbiological Laboratories of General Hospitals.
  5. 1,512 cases from 45,908 samples tested by the antigen rapid test in private clinical laboratories and pharmacies.
  6. 984 cases out of 61,808 samples tested by the antigen rapid test through the Ministry of Health programme.
  7. 5 cases from 170 samples taken under the programme of referrals by Personal Physicians and screening of special groups through the Public Health Clinics.

In addition, the following examinations were carried out without detecting a case:

  1. 0 cases from 1 sample taken in the framework of controls in closed structures.
