[PIO] Ministry of Energy, Trade and Industry prepares €158 million sponsorship plans for 2022

- The Minister for Energy, Trade and Industry presented at an online workshop all the projects that households and businesses should expect this year

- On 24 February, the €25 million grant scheme for the creation and modernisation of agricultural processing and marketing units opens for the first time, followed in March by the scheme for the energy upgrading of businesses, €40 million.

On 24 February, applications for the Grant Scheme for the creation, modernisation and digital upgrading of agricultural processing and/or marketing units will start to be accepted. This is the first grant scheme announced by the Ministry of Energy, Trade and Industry (MoEIC) for 2022, as part of the effort for technological upgrading of businesses and transition to a green, circular and digital economy. The plan was presented yesterday at an online workshop, which was attended by Minister Natasha Pilidou.

In her intervention, the Minister stressed that for the second year, the Ministry is continuing for the second year the ambitious programme launched exactly one year ago to support Cypriot households and businesses. "In 2021, we announced projects worth €130 million to restart the economy. We are continuing dynamically in 2022 with calls for new projects with a total budget of €158 million." The projects promoted by the MoH for the energy upgrading of homes and local authorities are. [*]Installation of photovoltaic panels and roof insulation, April - May 2022, €7.3 million. [*]Installation or replacement of solar water heater, March - April 2022, €450 thousand [*]Photovoltaic system for electric vehicle charging, March - April 2022, €1.5 million [*]Residential energy upgrade, 2nd half 2022, €35 million [*]Energy upgrade of local authorities and wider public bodies, March 2022, €9 million. Agricultural Processing Scheme

The provisions of the Grant Scheme for the creation, modernisation and digital upgrading of small and medium-sized enterprises in the processing and/or marketing of agricultural products, presented during yesterday's webinar, which was attended by dozens of stakeholders through the Ministry of Industry and Technology's YouTube channel, by the Director of the Department of Industry and Technology, Mr. The objectives of the project, he said, are the modernization of the agricultural processing sector with the development of new products with high added value, the creation of new jobs especially in rural areas and the utilization of local production in the primary sector.

In addition to the processing activity, eligible sectors include the marketing of fruit and vegetables, i.e. packaging, standardisation, sorting, preservation, refrigeration, storage of fruit and vegetables, including potatoes (fresh fruit and vegetable packing plants), standardisation and packaging of olive oil, eggs and processing, standardisation and packaging of meat, pasteurisation of milk, slaughterhouses, flower markets and flower packing and distribution centres. Fishing, aquaculture and wine production are excluded.

The aid rate is 40% of the eligible investment costs and the maximum grant amount is €500 thousand per enterprise in case enterprises choose to apply under the EU Exemption Regulation. In the case of opting for the De Minimis Regulation, the aid rate is 50% with a maximum grant amount of €200 thousand per beneficiary per three financial years.

For micro-enterprises in mountainous or disadvantaged areas the aid rate is 60% of the eligible costs and for enterprises in areas affected by fires 65%.

The evaluation procedure for applications will be immediate based on the date of submission. The proposals selected for inclusion in the project will be those that obtain at least 55% of the total score.

Interested parties are invited to carefully study the provisions of the Project Guide, which has been posted HERE. Please note that applications will be submitted until 24/6/2024.

The Project will be implemented within the framework of the Cyprus Recovery and Resilience Plan (CRP) and will be funded by the European Union (EU) Recovery and Resilience Mechanism, the central instrument of NextGenerationEU, the temporary instrument for financing the EU's recovery and exit from the pandemic crisis.
