Deputy Minister of State for Research, Innovation and Digital Policy Filippos Hadjizaharias is travelling to Brussels today where he will participate in the Competitiveness Council (Research and Space) of the European Union, which will take place on 8 December 2023.
The main items on the Council's agenda for the Research Summit are the impact of research and innovation on policy making, where Ministers are expected to adopt Council conclusions. Ministers will also be invited to reach political agreement on a Council Recommendation aimed at creating a European framework for attracting and retaining talent in the fields of research, innovation and entrepreneurship in Europe. Finally, an orientation debate will be held on: "Harnessing research as a tool for economic and industrial recovery and resilience."
As regards the Ministerial Meeting on Space, the two main issues on the agenda are space traffic management and the future of EU space policy.
In the margins of the Council, the Deputy Minister will have bilateral contacts with his European counterparts.
The Deputy Minister will be accompanied in Brussels by the Director General of the Deputy Ministry, Dr Neophytos Papadopoulos.
Mr. Hadjizaharias is expected to return to Cyprus on Saturday, 9 December 2023.
