The Minister of State for Research, Innovation and Digital Policy, Mr Philip Hadjizaharias, is travelling to Malta today to participate in the MED9 Ministerial Summit on the Digital Economy, which will take place tomorrow, 20 September 2023, at the Malta Convention Centre.
The convergence of the nine Mediterranean EU Member States is taking place to exchange knowledge, ideas, best practices and cutting-edge research findings in the dynamic fields of advanced digital technologies and in particular artificial intelligence, in the context of strengthening regional cooperation.
The focus of the meeting will be on harnessing the potential of AI to address critical issues such as climate change, food security, sustainable development, healthcare services, cultural heritage, cybersecurity, education and workforce development, as well as research and innovation using robust AI.
The aim of the Summit is to highlight and harness these technologies in the Mediterranean region as a tool to address challenges, and to use them as a defence against potential threats, including cyber threats.
The meeting will see the signing of a Joint Declaration of the nine Mediterranean Member States on AI, in which the MED9 recognise the transformative potential of AI in shaping our digital future, and commit to collective actions that will drive the Mediterranean region forward.
