The Deputy Minister of State for Research, Innovation and Digital Policy, Dr Nicodemus Damianou, is travelling to Brussels today, 14 February 2024, where he will participate in the Informal Competitiveness Council on Research, organised by the Belgian Presidency of the Council of the European Union (EU) between 14-15 February 2024.
The focus of the Informal Council will be on the shift of the European Framework for Research and Innovation towards a more transformative policy, with a broader social and economic impact, and the importance of stimulating cooperation between public authorities, the research and business community and society for sustainable growth and prosperity.
Ministers will exchange views on the role of technological progress in strengthening EU competitiveness and addressing major challenges such as decarbonising industry, making recommendations on more effective ways to promote the adoption of green technologies in industry and society.
Subsequently, on 16 February 2024, the Deputy Minister will participate in a Ministerial Meeting, also organised by the Belgian Presidency, in the margins of which a joint ministerial declaration will be signed regarding the development of a framework for international cooperation in the field of research and innovation, based on common principles and values.
The Deputy Minister will return to Cyprus on Friday, 16 February.
