[PIO] Minister of State for European Affairs to participate in the General Affairs Council

Deputy Minister of State for European Affairs Marilena Raouna will travel to Luxembourg tomorrow, Monday, June 24, where she will participate in the work of the General Affairs Council of the European Union (EU) on Tuesday, June 25.

The agenda of the General Affairs Council includes, inter alia, a policy debate on the proposal for a Directive on the transparency of the representation of interests by third countries and the hearing of Hungary under the Article 7(1) procedure of the EU Treaty in relation to the state of the rule of law in the country.

The Council will also prepare the European Council meeting on 27-28 June 2024, which is expected to discuss, inter alia, the situation in relation to Ukraine and the country's accession path, the situation in the Middle East and the next EU institutional cycle, which is expected to adopt the Union's Strategic Agenda 2024-2029. The European Council is also expected to discuss defence, security and competitiveness issues.

In the margins of the General Affairs Council, Ms Rauna will have a meeting with her Trio Presidency counterparts, the Polish Deputy Minister for European Affairs Ms Magdalena Sobkowiak-Czarnecka and the Danish Deputy Minister for European Affairs Mr Jonas Bering Liisberg. Representatives of the General Secretariat of the Council of the EU will also attend the meeting. The aim of the meeting is to establish the framework for the Trio's cooperation with the General Secretariat of the Council and to exchange views on the preparations of the Trio Presidencies.

The Deputy Minister will also participate in the intergovernmental conferences for the opening of accession negotiations with Moldova and Ukraine, which will take place on the same day in Luxembourg, and the intergovernmental conference with Montenegro, which will take place on Wednesday 26 June in Brussels.
