Deputy Minister of State for European Affairs Marilena Raouna attended today a working lunch organised by the Belgian Presidency with the heads of diplomatic missions of the European Union (EU) Member States in Nicosia.

During the working lunch, the Deputy Minister thanked the Belgian Presidency and the Belgian Ambassador to Cyprus, based in Athens, Mr. Marc Calcoen, for the invitation and the opportunity to have a frank and extensive discussion with Cyprus' European partners on the main issues on the European agenda. He also congratulated the Belgian Presidency for what they have achieved so far, such as the adoption by the European Parliament of the Pact on Immigration and Asylum, the European legislation to combat violence against women and domestic violence, and the Net Zero Industry Act.

Ms Raouna then referred to the preparatory work for the Cyprus Presidency of the EU Council, and underlined the great importance of cooperation with the diplomatic missions of the EU Member States, as well as with the representatives of the EU institutions in Cyprus, in this context.

This was followed by a discussion between the Deputy Minister and the heads of diplomatic missions, which focused, inter alia, on the forthcoming European elections, migration and asylum issues, Euro-Turkish relations, the Strategic Agenda, enlargement issues, regional developments and the future of Europe, as well as the reform of the EU.
