[PIO] Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment attends the EU Council of Agriculture and Fisheries Ministers in Brussels

Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment Dr Maria Panayiotou left today for Brussels, where she will participate in the first Council of Ministers of Agriculture and Fisheries of the European Union (EU) under the Belgian Presidency, which will take place on 23 January 2024.

The Council will address agricultural issues related to trade, the public debate on the strategic dialogue on the future of agriculture in Europe launched by the European Commission, and a first exchange of views on the proposed regulation on a monitoring framework for resilient European forests, which is the main legislative initiative of the "New EU Forestry Strategy 2030". Particular attention will be paid to animal health and welfare, as well as the need for resilient forests.

After the Council, the Minister will participate in an informal meeting of EUrope Mediterranean Agriculture Ministers - EUMED-9 to promote policies to mitigate the effects of climate change in the Mediterranean member states.
