Dear children,

The start of the school year marks the beginning of a journey filled with new experiences of learning, knowledge, acquisition of skills, creativity, cooperation, mutual understanding, formation of life attitudes!

With optimism seize every opportunity that school offers you! Keep in mind that every school activity contributes in a different way to your all-round development! It is no coincidence that Plato said that "education is a second sun for men."

Undoubtedly, there are aspects of the education system that need to be changed. The rapidly changing reality that characterizes our time creates new, modern challenges to which the education system must respond effectively in order to achieve its goals.

I understand the concerns and fear that those involved: parents, teachers and perhaps even some children may feel in the face of any change. It is, after all, natural that any change is scary. But our concerns and fears should not stand in the way of developing a healthy democratic dialogue on issues relating to children's well-being.

Close cooperation between the whole school community, the Ministry, teachers, parents and children, can bring the best possible results, always with the best interests of the child in mind, of course, in every area of the child's life. A prerequisite for achieving this, however, is that children themselves should be involved in the decision-making process. All children, whatever their age, can have an opinion on the education system, since they spend a large part of their lives at school: their second home.

For my part, I can assure you that my Office, listening to the demand of children, will continue to give strength to their voice! It will continue to conduct information, empowerment and awareness-raising programmes for children, parents and society to ensure and fully enjoy the rights enshrined in the United Nations Convention. I am sure that the compulsory introduction of the new subject: comprehensive sex education, which will act as an additional shield against all abusive behaviour, will also contribute to this. For only informed and empowered children can assert their rights and be able to protect themselves: To be able to say NO!

I wish a good start and a happy school year to all!
