Every year on 20 November, World Children's Rights Day is celebrated. The aim of this day is to promote, defend and celebrate children's rights. At the same time, this day is an opportunity to raise awareness and inform children about their rights through dialogue, actions, programmes and education that will enable them to build a better future for themselves.

The Republic of Cyprus remains faithful to its commitment to respect the rights of children, as they derive from the national legal framework, but also from the ratified international conventions. The Commissioner for Legislation, in accordance with a decision of the Council of Ministers, coordinates the preparation of the periodic report of Cyprus under the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child and leads the Cypriot delegation for the presentation/examination of the report before the relevant Committee.

At the same time, in the context of its duties regarding the drafting of legislation concerning children, the Office of the Commissioner for Legislation has the highest concern for the safeguarding of children's rights and the faithful observance of the fundamental principle of the best interest of the child.

The theme of World Children's Day 2023, as established by the United Nations, is "For every child, every right".
