Mr.Mr. Tornaritis and Mr. Loucaides, head and member respectively of the Cypriot delegation to the CSTO, will travel to Paris to participate in meetings of the CSTO's Political Affairs and Democracy Committee and the Committee for Monitoring the Observance of Obligations and Commitments of the Member States of the Council of Europe (CoE), which will take place between 11 and 13 September 2023. The Members of Parliament will be accompanied by Senior International Relations Officer Ms Gabriella Marangou.
The meeting of the Political Affairs and Democracy Committee will address issues such as the challenge posed by far-right ideology in Europe, globalisation in times of war and crisis and the role of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development, the relationship between the coalition and the opposition in democratic regimes, the need to strengthen participatory and effective multilateralism, the European perspective of the Western Balkans, developments in the Sahel region of Africa and the consequences for stability in Europe.
In the context of the session of the Committee for Monitoring Compliance with Obligations and Commitments of CoE Member States, the progress made by a number of Council of Europe Member States in complying with their contractual obligations towards the Organisation will be discussed, as well as the role of the CoE in preventing conflicts, restoring the credibility of international organisations and promoting world peace.
