MPs Mrs Irini Charalambidou (leader), Mr Kyriakos Hatzigiannis and Mr Christos Senekis, members of the Cypriot delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE).They will participate in the work of the 21st Winter Meeting of the Assembly, which will take place on 24 and 25 February 2022, in a hybrid format. Ms. Charalambidou, in her capacity as one of the Vice-Presidents of the OSCE CSC and the Assembly's Special Representative on Anti-Corruption, and Mr. Hatzigiannis, in his capacity as the Assembly's Special Representative on Civil Society Participation, will travel to Vienna tomorrow to physically participate in a meeting of the Assembly's Standing Committee. Mr Seneca will participate in the proceedings of the Winter Meeting via internet. The delegation will be accompanied to Vienna by Ms Eleni Georgiou, International Relations Officer I of the Parliament.
In the framework of the Meeting, joint and separate sessions of the three Committees of the Assembly, the Committee on Political Affairs and Security, the Committee on Economic Affairs, Science, Technology and Environment and the Committee on Democracy, Human Rights and Humanitarian Affairs, will be held. The work of the Committees will address, respectively, tensions in the OSCE region and the role of inter-parliamentary dialogue, economic and environmental security and the issue of trafficking in persons in the globalised economy, and journalism as a necessary condition for ensuring the rule of law.
The meeting of the Standing Committee will address issues relating to past and future activities, as well as issues relating to the functioning of the Assembly. In this context, Ms Charalambidou and Mr Hatzigiannis will inform the members of the Standing Committee of their activities, within the framework of their responsibilities as Special Representatives of the Convention.
The delegation will return to Cyprus on Saturday, 26 February 2022.
