The legal framework and programmes for the prevention and treatment of addictions were extensively discussed at a meeting between the Minister of Justice and Public Order and the President and members of the Cyprus Addiction Treatment Authority, in the presence of the Governor of YKAN.
The Minister assured that the issues of treatment and treatment of addictions are of particular interest to the Ministry of Justice and Public Order and seeks the cooperation of the Authority.
Through the discussion, suggestions were made on ways to improve and modernise the existing legal framework for the prevention and treatment of addiction cases.
The Authority informed the Minister about the rehabilitation programmes within prisons and the reintegration programmes for released prisoners, with the Minister expressing her support for the actions and efforts of the Authority.
In addition, the Authority expressed its satisfaction to the Cyprus Police for both the increase in checks carried out for the detection and seizure of addictive substances and the modernisation of the drug destruction procedure. The Commander of the YKAN informed that alongside the above, steps have been taken to raise European funds for the purchase and installation of modern drug detection equipment at the entrances of the country.
Finally, views were expressed on the use of existing quantitative and qualitative data on drug testing in order to take more targeted measures and actions.
In conclusion, the Minister thanked the President and members of the Authority for the useful exchange of views, noting that cooperation between the two sides will continue with further meetings.
