The need for immediate reform of the judiciary and the legal framework against corruption
The implementation of the legal framework against corruption and the reform of the judiciary were the focus of a meeting held by the Minister of PPD with the President and members of the Association of Certified Public Accountants of Cyprus.
The Minister briefed the representatives of the ACA on the progress made so far in the implementation of the three anti-corruption bills approved by the Parliament in the previous period.
She also noted that the contribution of the ACFA in this effort will be decisive, due to the participation of the President of the ACFA in the advisory council that will determine the candidate members of the Anti-Corruption Authority.
For his part, the Director General of the Association expressed his satisfaction with the creation of the necessary legal framework to combat the phenomenon and declared his readiness to contribute in every way possible to the effort of implementation and practical implementation of the draft laws.
The need for an immediate reform of the judicial system and the anxiety of the economic world in particular about the long delays in the adjudication of cases were then put on the table. The Association's representatives also welcomed the advancement of the Commercial and Maritime Courts Bill, while noting their full support for the introduction of the English language.
The Minister assured the Association of her unremitting efforts to ensure that the reform of the judiciary proceeds without further delays.
In conclusion, the Minister thanked the ACLU for its cooperation on issues of common interest, such as police training and support for the Economic Crime Sub-Division. She also expressed her confidence that the cooperation will continue and will be strengthened in the coming period.
