Minister of Interior Mr.Constantinos Ioannou met today with the Executive Committee of the Union of Cyprus Municipalities, during which they discussed the course of completion of the actions required on the part of the Union before July 1, when the Local Government Reform will be implemented.
Specifically, the Service Plans prepared by the Ministry of Interior for the new municipalities were discussed, as well as personnel issues, with emphasis on the transfer of municipal employees involved in licensing to the Provincial Self-Government Organizations. In relation to the preparation of the Budgets of the new Municipalities, at the request of the Union of Municipalities, it was decided that, for the second half of 2024, the state subsidy will be distributed according to the existing method. The new method of calculating the state subsidy will be determined after consultation with the new Union of Cyprus Municipalities and will apply from 2025.
Regarding the "EYAGORAS" system, Mr Ioannou was informed by the President of the Union of Municipalities Mr Andreas Vyra about the development of the project. Mr. Vyras noted that efforts are being made to overcome the problems that arise so that the system can be delivered to the municipalities on time. He noted that, as of April 1, the System is being piloted in two municipalities, in order to identify in advance any weaknesses so that they can be improved until its universal implementation in all municipalities.
