The Minister of Education, Culture, Sports and Youth Mr Prodromos Prodromou chaired a meeting with the Pancyprian Confederation of Federations of Associations of Parents of Public Secondary Schools at the Ministry today. The meeting was also attended by the Director General of the Ministry, Mr. Neophytos Papadopoulos, the Director of Secondary General Education Mr. Kyprianos Louis and the Director of Secondary Technical and Vocational Education and Training Mr. Elias Markatzis.
After the meeting, the Minister made statements to journalists.
In particular, Mr. Prodromou said: "Today we had a meeting with the Pancyprian Confederation of Federations of Associations of Public Secondary School Parents' Associations. During the meeting I had the opportunity to inform the President and members of the leadership of the Confederation about the efforts made and the fact that despite the difficulties during these two days of reopening of schools we have managed to meet the challenge and the schools were able to operate with substitutions and replacement of teachers absent due to the pandemic.
There was also a general update on the operation of the schools and on the written evaluation that we will have from next Friday, as well as on other issues related to the operation of the schools in the midst of the pandemic.
It is our common desire, our goal to keep our schools in operation with a physical presence, but at the same time with health security.
We also discussed health protection measures in schools and the general handling of outbreaks and contacts, as well as the permanent issues that concern us: the quality of education, the organisation of educational programmes and so on.
Finally, I thanked the organized parents because throughout this pandemic ordeal they are on the side of public education, we have the same concern and with the cooperation of both parents and teachers, we can avoid sacrificing children's education to the pandemic."
