The Minister of Education, Sports and Youth, Mrs Athina Michaelidou, held a meeting with the Secretariat of the Cyprus Organization of Technical Education Officers (OLTEK) at the Ministry today, during which issues related to the start of the school year were discussed.
After the meeting, Mrs. Michaelidou in her statements to journalists said: "Due to the imminent start of the school year, we consider it very important to have communication with all our partners. Today, we had a very constructive meeting with the educational and trade union organization OLTEK, of technical and vocational education.
We reviewed with them the various issues related to the start of the new school year, such as staffing, our building program, issues related to books, new programs and the priorities we have.
More generally, we conveyed the message that comes from the governance programme: that our desire is to support and upgrade technical education more broadly, both school education and post-secondary education, with the post-secondary institutes. Therefore, we informed about the decisions and listened to their concerns, which have to do mainly with the building issues, but also with the support in practice, with seats and so on, to technical education.
We have already expressed our positive willingness to help. And for us it is important that the continuation of this dialogue should be a dynamic process. This dialogue has already been institutionalized and we believe that, after the beginning of the school year, we will be in contact with the Organization, so that we can resolve any problems that may arise during the school year. In general, we believe that these discussions also help us, because we get information. We get feedback from our teacher base, but also from our trade unionists, so that they are directly informed about our policies and different decisions."
