Yesterday, on Tuesday, 5 September 2023, the Deputy Minister of Shipping Ms Marina Hadjimanoli had a formal meeting with the Ambassador of China to Cyprus Mr Liu Yantao, at the Ministry of Shipping, in Limassol, where bilateral issues were discussed, as well as general issues concerning global shipping.
During the meeting, the Deputy Minister highlighted the historic, very close relations and strong ties that link the two countries and expressed her desire to further strengthen them. Ms. Hadjimanoli referred to the Maritime Agreement between the Republic of Cyprus and the Government of the People's Republic of China, which was signed in 1990 and entered into force in May 1991, expressing the desire for its reactivation. He also stressed the excellent cooperation between the two countries on matters relating to shipping, particularly in the context of international organisations, and referred to the excellent relations between Cyprus and the Chinese delegation to the International Maritime Organisation (IMO), where constructive cooperation and support is noted.
For his part, the Chinese Ambassador confirmed the strong ties between the two sides and expressed his own wish that the two countries continue to work together in order to further strengthen their relations.
In conclusion, the Deputy Minister thanked Mr. Liu Yantau for the constructive meeting and extended an invitation to the "Maritime Cyprus 2023" Conference, which will be held on October 8-11, 2023, in Limassol.
