As part of efforts to better serve citizens for vaccination against COVID-19, the Ministry of Health informs that the Nuvaxovid vaccine Novavax is available only at the vaccination portal and citizens may make an appointment for vaccination.
It should be noted that the Nuvaxovid vaccine is administered to persons aged 18 years and over in two doses, 3 weeks apart. It is only administered for 1st and 2nd dose of COVID-19 vaccine.
How does the Nuvaxovid vaccine work?
- The Nuvaxovid[/I] vaccine works by preparing the body to defend itself against infection [/I]COVID-19. It contains a laboratory-produced version of the spike protein and an "immune booster", a substance that helps boost immune responses to the vaccine. When a person receives the vaccine, their immune system will recognise the protein in the vaccine as foreign and produce natural defences - antibodies and T cells - against it. If, later, the vaccinated person comes into contact with the SARS-CoV-2 virus, the immune system will recognise the spike protein in the virus and be ready to attack.
As a reminder, vaccination centers in all provinces are open from 8:00am to 3:00pm on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday.
- Every Wednesday, walk-in Vaccination Centers in all provinces will continue to operate from 8:00am - 6:00pm.
- Every Saturday, walk-in Vaccination Centres in all provinces will operate from 8:00am - 1:00pm.
