For his long-standing, substantial and productive cooperation with the Cyprus Standards Organization (CYS) in the continuous effort to upgrade quality in the National Guard, the former Chief, Lt.Demokritos Zervakis, Honorary Commander of the 1st Army/EUOHQ.
The modest ceremony took place in Nicosia on 17 November 2023, where the Chairman of the Board of Directors of CYS Mr. Dimitris Vakis presented Lieutenant General Demokritos Zervakis with the prestigious Bronze Talent of Cyprus, in the presence of Members of the Board of Directors and the Management of the Organization, the current Chief of Staff, Lieutenant General Georgios Tsitsikostas and Brigadier General Harris Georgiou, Chief of Staff of the Minister of Defence as representative of the Minister of Defence.
In his speech, the President of CYS referred to the history that united the two from the time the former Chief of Staff served in Cyprus as Chief of Staff and the common dedication to quality. He also referred to the achievements of these years under a specific action plan based on the CYS - Ministry of Defence & General Staff of the National Guard (YPAM/GEF) Framework of Cooperation, which was signed at the highest level in 2021. In his response, Mr. Zervakis, after thanking the CYS for the special honor bestowed upon him, referred to the enormous importance of standardization, the application of standards in the interoperability of weapon systems and materials, the innovation of modern technology, in the procurement of materials and markets, as well as the usefulness of implementing total quality in the defense sector.

He said that wherever he served during his tenure, quality issues were always at the top of his priorities as they were a success ingredient for achieving all objectives for the healthy functioning of Defence everywhere.
Finally, he referred to the special relationship he had built and always maintained and developed with the CYS and expressed his confidence that the new Leadership of the National Guard will continue and further develop this cooperation for the benefit of the Cypriot society in general.
