As of today, the Forestry Department of the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment has six additional aircraft at its disposal to contribute to the work of aerial firefighting.

Specifically, yesterday afternoon, 10/06/2024, two Air Tractor AT802 aircraft arrived in Cyprus from Argentina, while this afternoon two more Air Tractor AT802 aircraft are expected to arrive from Australia. This follows the successful outcome of tenders for the lease of four aircraft.

It is noted that the cost of leasing two of the above four aircraft will be covered by the European Union (EU) RescEU mechanism.

The effective coordination and cooperation of the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Defence, the National Guard and the Ministry of Interior, have resulted in another important addition to the flight assets that the Forestry Department will have at its disposal from today.

In particular, the granting by Egypt of two helicopters with their 17-member crew was achieved, which are expected to arrive in Cyprus today at noon.

The cooperation with neighbouring countries, as a result of which the Jordanian helicopters will be stationed on the island, confirms the positive results of the multi-layered foreign policy of the Nicos Christodoulides government, as well as the excellent cooperation between Cyprus and its neighbours.

Once all the appropriate checks and the necessary briefing and training of the crews have been completed, the aircraft will be put on immediate standby to respond to fires.
