The Energy Service of the Ministry of Energy, Trade and Industry announces that, pursuant to Articles 10(7) and 11(6) of the Regulation of Energy Performance of Buildings Act 2006 (L. 142(I)/2006), by 1 January 2025 all buildings that are not used as dwellings and have heating or air conditioning systems with a net effective rated output of more than 290 kW must be equipped with automation and control systems that allow:
(a) the continuous monitoring, recording, analysis and adjustability of energy consumption,
(b) the benchmarking of the energy performance of the building, identifying losses in the efficiency of the technical systems of the building and informing the person responsible for the installations or the technical management of the building about the possibilities to improve energy efficiency, and
(c) communicating with interconnected technical building systems and other devices within the building and interoperability with technical building systems of different proprietary technologies, mechanisms or manufacturers.
The above requirement of the Act is part of the policies and measures implemented to reduce energy consumption attributable to heating and air conditioning systems.
After January 1, 2025, the Energy Office will conduct a compliance audit of the relevant provision of the Act.
For any information regarding the above, interested parties may contact the Industrial Applications Officer, Mr. Kristi Yalluros, at cyiallouros@meci.gov.cy or by phone at 22409411.
