[PIO] Information meeting of the General Accounting Office of the Republic and the Ministry of Interior with elected Members of Local Government

The General Accounting Office of the Republic in cooperation with the Ministry of Interior have successfully organized two information meetings for elected Presidents of Provincial Organizations, Mayors, Deputy Mayors and members of Municipal and Community Councils and School Boards.

The object of the briefing, following the commitment made before the Parliamentary Audit Committee, was to educate the participants on the basic principles of administrative law, the principles governing public procurement and the general framework of basic principles and obligations arising from the operation of the institutions they have been called upon to serve.

More specifically, the Director-General of the Ministry of Interior referred to the administrative functioning of the decision-making bodies, covering issues such as constitution, legality and record-keeping. The General Accounting Office, in turn, covered the area of Public Procurement, focusing on the basic principles, conflict of interest, the award of tenders and analysed the frequent problems encountered in the procedures, as well as those highlighted through the reports of the Auditor General and the decisions of the Tender Review Authority.

The presentations covered all the Districts with the first one being held at the Nicosia Municipal Theatre for the Districts of Nicosia, Larnaca and Famagusta and the second one at the Panos Solomonides Municipal Cultural Centre for the Districts of Limassol and Paphos.
