The High-Level Meeting "COVlD-19: The path after the pandemic" took place today, October 7, 2022, with great success. The conference was organized by the Ministry of Health and took place at the St Raphael Resort Hotel, with the participation of the European Commissioner for Health and Food Safety, Ms Stella Kyriakidou, the Director of the World Health Organization's European Region Dr. Hans Henri P. Kluge, the Ministers of Health of Israel, Latvia, Malta, Spain, the Director of the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) Dr. Andrea Ammon and other experts and representatives of Romania, Hungary, Hungary, Finland, Slovenia and Croatia.
During the High Level Meeting, knowledge and experiences were exchanged between representatives of the institutions managing the pandemic, in view of the challenges expected to be faced by health systems during the coming winter.
At the beginning of the meeting, Minister of Health Mr. Michael Hadjipandela said: "As leaders at all levels of health and care, we must make it a priority to develop a culture of compassion, inclusion, and collaboration to improve the care we provide to all patients and create high quality workplaces for our staff to adopt a learning principle for the next phases of our response."
European Commission Health and Food Safety Commissioner Stella Kyriakidou praised the initiative of the Minister of Health of the Republic of Cyprus, stating: "I am delighted to see that the Member State I know better than any other is creating such important discussions for the future of our cooperation in the health sector."
In turn, Dr. Hans Henri P. Kluge, WHO Regional Director for Europe, said that today, we are focusing on the positives of health and well-being, applying things we have learned, making our Region a safer place, better equipped to deal with future emergencies, and better able to strengthen primary health care systems as a basis for comprehensive health coverage.
The conference also featured presentations by the Minister of Health of Israel. Mr. Nitzan Horowitz, Dr. Andrea Ammon, Director of the ECDC, Dr. Gregory Gerodziafa, Professor of Haematology at the Sorbonne University of Paris, and Dr. Pavlos Theodorakis, from the WHO Regional Office.
This was followed by open discussions between Ministers of Health, and experts, on "How to prevent the next pandemic" and "How the COVID-19 pandemic changed the fight against communicable diseases".
