The two-day High Level Conference "Women for the Mediterranean" (#Women4Mediterranean), co-organised by the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM) and the Office of the Gender Equality Commissioner, on behalf of the Republic of Cyprus, starts tomorrow at the Royal Hall in Nicosia.
The opening ceremony will be addressed by the Secretary General of the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM), Mr. The Conference will be a platform for the discussion and adoption of the Roadmap for Implementation 2024-2025, a strategic initiative aimed at implementing the 5th UfM Ministerial Declaration on the Empowerment of Women in Society, adopted in Madrid.
The Conference is a platform for the discussion and adoption of the Roadmap 2024-2025, a strategic initiative aimed at implementing the 5th UfM Ministerial Declaration on the Empowerment of Women in Society, adopted in Madrid. The document comes from an integrated process, initiated after the 2022 Ministerial Declaration and shaped by the meetings of the UfM Regional Platform for Women's Empowerment, held online and in Barcelona in 2023. UfM's commitment to gender equality was further underlined with the launch of the Intergovernmental Monitoring Mechanism for Gender Equality in 2020. The Mechanism provides policy makers with a comprehensive tool for measuring and reporting progress on women's rights, which will also be evaluated at the Conference.

- Women's economic empowerment,
- Gender equality and climate change,
- Violence against women and girls,
- Media and gender equality.
