It is with great pleasure that we are here today in this welcoming and beautiful space, to mark the official opening of the first Assisted Living Home of the Mental Health Services Directorate/OKYPY.
A project that adds to the efforts made to promote the health sector, with the aim of providing quality health services, with full respect for the dignity and rights of people with mental health problems.
Our effort, through this project, is to provide a humane and supportive environment for people with mental health problems so that they can be rehabilitated in the community, respecting their human rights.
The Assisted Living Home of the Mental Health Services Department, operates exclusively for patients with mental health problems, who need to be deinstitutionalized from the Athalassa Hospital and integrated into the community in sheltered or semi-sheltered hostels.
More specifically, this hostel houses patients with chronic mental health problems in stable condition, who have been in the Athalassa Hospital for a long period of time, are not at risk and can be rehabilitated in the community.
The facility meets all the standards required for the operation of such facilities and is staffed by specialized mental health nursing staff with 24-hour coverage seven days a week, and is covered by a Psychiatrist, Pathologist and soon by an Occupational Therapist.
Tree planting has been created around the perimeter of the site under development and a general upgrade and improvement of the facades of the building and surrounding area has been promoted, achieving a welcoming and intimate environment for patients within the community.
It is worth mentioning the fact that both the Municipality of Latsia and the community of Latsia have lovingly embraced the whole effort and already the results of this project are evident and contribute to the restoration and enhancement of the mental health of the people residing in the area.
We therefore congratulate OKYPY and the Directorate of Mental Health Services for the initiative and implementation of the first Assisted Living Home for people with mental health problems and the efforts made by the volunteers. It is stressed that the cooperation of the state, society, citizens and volunteers is essential to address health challenges.
At the same time, we would like to thank the Association for the Protection of Mental Health, which has donated a significant part of the furniture of the hostel and is working closely with the Directorate of Mental Health Services.
In closing, I want to assure you that the Ministry of Health remains supportive and supportive of efforts to develop programs and activities through which quality care services are offered to the community.
