Total Employment: 54,706

Government employment in January 2024 increased by 2,687 persons (5.2%) compared to the same month in 2023 and reached 54,706 persons. The increase is primarily attributed to an increase in Education Service staff (13.5%), mainly due to the abolition of the purchase of services scheme in the supporting programmes of the Ministry of Education, Sports and Youth from the 2023 - 2024 school year. The remaining staff categories, Civil Service, Security Forces and Hourly Staff, saw an increase of 0.8%, 2.8% and 1.8% respectively, compared to January 2023.

Compared to December 2023, the largest change was in the Security Forces staff (0.7% increase). Employment in other staff categories remained very close to December, 2023 levels.
