"Women need a space and a voice to create women's role models, which should be heard and promoted."
Inaugurating the art exhibition "Reclaiming the Woman" organised by Young BPW Cyprus and the online platform Visual Space, Gender Equality Commissioner Ms. Josie Christodoulou highlighted the role of women artists in shaping history and culture and stressed the need for more visibility and voice of women in the art world.
In her address, Ms Christodoulou also highlighted the issue of the wage gap between women and men in the art sector, and announced the forthcoming mapping of the percentage of women's works in the State Gallery's collection.
The opening of the exhibition was followed by a discussion on "Equality and Entrepreneurship through Art".
