The International Maritime Organization (IMO), a specialized agency of the United Nations whose main mission is the safety and security of international shipping, held its 130th Council Meeting on Thursday, 23 November 2023.
During the session, Mrs. Despina Panayiotou Theodosiou, member of the Board of Directors of the Chamber and Managing Director of Tototheo Maritime Ltd, received the Organization's Award for Gender Equality in the Maritime Sector. The selection of the Cypriot nominee for this award is particularly significant as it is the first time it has been awarded by the Organization.
The award to Ms. Theotosiou is in recognition of her dedication and substantial contribution to the promotion and empowerment of women in the shipping industry and to building a culture of equality, beyond gender stereotypes and prejudices, in the shipping industry.
The Chamber warmly congratulates Ms Theodosiou on her award which is a special honour not only for her but also for the entire Cypriot shipping industry, which adds another recognition and further enhances the image of Cyprus on a global level.
