In the framework of the planned visit to the port of Limassol, the French aircraft carrier FS Charles De Gaulle (R91), the Naval Command of the National Guard (NF) has jointly planned and will conduct training exercises with the French Navy.

In particular, on Saturday, 26 February 2022, in a move that once again highlights the excellent cooperation between the Naval Forces of the Republic of Cyprus and France, the General Support Ship ALASIA and the Patrol Vessels AMMOCHOSTOS and GEORGIOU, sailed to join and escort the French aircraft carrier FS Charles De Gaulle, from its entry into the territorial waters of the Republic of Cyprus until its arrival in the port of Limassol. The ships of the Naval Command will join and escort, again, the French aircraft carrier after its departure from the port of Limassol.

During the docking in Limassol, the Minister of Defence, Mr. Charalambos Petrides, the Chief of the National Guard, Lieutenant General Demokritos Zervakis, the hierarchy of the General Staff of the National Guard and a delegation of Officers will visit the French aircraft carrier where they will meet with the Commander of the French Naval Force (French Carrier Strike Group) and the Captain of the aircraft carrier FS Charles De Gaulle. The meeting will provide a further opportunity to upgrade cooperation between the two European states in the deployment of the French Naval Force in the region, named "CLEMENCEAU 22".

On the occasion of the visit of the warships participating in the French Naval Force, Naval Cooperation (PASSEX), Search and Rescue (SAREX) and Air Defence (ADEX) exercises will be conducted with the Rafale Marine Aircraft, which are considered to be particularly beneficial, as they enable National Guard personnel to co-train with units of the French Armed Forces, thus promoting interoperability while strengthening relations in the areas of naval and air cooperation.

At the same time, the participation of the National Guard in a wide range of international cooperation with the forces of friendly and allied countries contributes to ensuring stability and security in the region.
