The Environment Commissioner in cooperation with the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Works inform that, as part of the "European Car Free Day" and "European Mobility Week" campaigns for 2023, all public passenger transport will be provided free of charge on Friday, 22 September 2023.
European Car Free Day was first launched in France in 1998 and established on a pan-European scale by a decision of the European Commission in 2000. The celebration involves 1500 cities in Europe and 4 in Canada.
Every year, on 22 September, the authorities of many cities close their city centres to cars and encourage their citizens to use public transport for their journeys.
As part of this campaign, we invite the public to use our buses completely free of charge and thus contribute to our campaign to raise public awareness and environmental consciousness.
We would like to thank all the public transport companies that have accepted and gladly supported our initiative by offering free transport to all their passengers.
It is stressed that transport will be provided free of charge throughout the day and all journeys will be made as normal.
For further information, the public is invited to contact the Public Passenger Transport Companies.
