The Forestry Department of the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment announces that today, Monday, 25 September 2023, two forest fires occurred in Paphos District.
The first fire occurred at 17:00 in an area of Agia Varvara Community. The fire was brought under full control at 18:10, after burning two decares of low wild vegetation and grasses. Two fire engines of the Forestry Department with five firefighters operated to extinguish the fire. Forestry Department operations were supported by the Fire Department with two fire engines with four personnel and the Game and Wildlife Service with one fire engine with two personnel. The causes of the fire are being investigated.
The second fire broke out at 17:34 in an area of the community of Drousia. The fire was brought under full control at 6:15 p.m., after burning a ten-acre area of low-growing wild vegetation and grasses. A Forestry Department fire truck with three firefighters attempted to extinguish the fire. The Forestry Department's operations were supported by the Fire Department with one fire truck and two personnel. The causes of the fire are being investigated.
