The Forestry Department of the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment announces that today, Friday, April 19, 2024 at 12:30 pm, a fire broke out in the location "Agios Modestos", near the Monastery of Stavrovouni.
The intervention of the forest firefighting forces was immediate, resulting in the fire being brought under control at 12:55, burning a small area covered with dry grass and low wild vegetation.
18 people of the Forestry Department with five fire engines participated in the extinguishing operation.
The cause of the fire was the ignition of an agricultural tractor.
