The Forestry Department of the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment announces that yesterday, Wednesday, 20 September 2023 at 19:30, a forest fire broke out in the location "Rinias" of the Community of Kellia in Larnaca District. The fire was brought under full control today, Thursday 21 September 2023, at 1:00 a.m.
The fire burned an area of 1.9 hectares consisting of reeds and wild vegetation.
17 persons of the Forestry Department with four fire engines and one earth mover participated in the extinguishing operation. The Forestry Department's operations were assisted by the Fire Department with five personnel and two fire engines, as well as a private agricultural tractor.
Forces remain on the fire in case of reignition.
The exact cause of the fire is being investigated.
