[PIO] Forest fire under full control at the boundaries of the Community of Xyliatos

The Forestry Department of the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment announces that today at 15:00 a fire broke out in an area with steep terrain within the Adelphi State Forest, at the boundaries of the Community of Xyliatou.

The intervention of the forest firefighting forces was immediate, resulting in the fire being brought under control at 17:30, before it spread, burning pine trees and low wild vegetation.

11 Forestry Department personnel with three fire trucks and three Fire Department personnel with one fire truck worked to extinguish the fire.

In addition, a police helicopter, a Jordanian helicopter based in Cyprus and a British Bases helicopter assisted in extinguishing the fire.

Fire-fighting forces will remain in the area throughout the night to monitor the fire and to deal with possible reignitions.

The exact cause of the fire is under investigation.
