The Forestry Department of the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment announces that yesterday, Saturday, at 15:00, a fire broke out in the area "Messani" within the boundaries of the Municipality of Pegeia.
The fire was brought under full control at 18:00, burning an area of three hectares of low wild vegetation.
The extinguishing operation involved 30 Forestry Department personnel with seven fire engines and five earth movers, while a Forestry Department firefighting aircraft also assisted from the air. The Fire Department contributed to the firefighting effort with four personnel and two fire trucks.
Forest firefighting forces will remain in the area to avoid any reignition.
The cause of the fire is being investigated.
