The Forestry Department of the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment announces that today, Saturday, July 13, 2024, at 13:01, a fire broke out in an area of the Community of Xyliatos, at the location "Kalogirou".
The fire was brought under full control at 13:30, burning an area of two (2) hectares with olive trees, almond trees and wild vegetation.
26 persons of the Forestry Department with five (5) fire engines participated in the extinguishing of the fire. The Forestry Department's operation was assisted by the Fire Department with three (3) people and one (1) fire truck, the Civil Defense with three (3) people and one (1) fire truck, as well as residents of the area.
The extinguishing effort was also assisted by two (2) fire planes.
Preliminary indications are that the fire was caused by welding and the case is being investigated by the police.
