[PIO] Foreign Minister meets with his Serbian counterpart in Belgrade

Foreign Minister Constantinos Kombos met today, Thursday, 23 November 2023, with Serbian Foreign Minister Ivica Dacic in Belgrade. The meeting took place in the framework of the official visit of President Nicos Christodoulides to Serbia between 22-23 November 2023.

The meeting reviewed bilateral relations between Cyprus and Serbia and reaffirmed the excellent level of cooperation. There was also a discussion on Serbia's European course, during which he stressed that Cyprus supports Serbia's accession to the European Union (EU). Kobos informed his Serbian counterpart about the latest developments on the Cyprus issue and the efforts our side is making to resume the talks, thanking his Serbian counterpart for his country's principled stance on the issue. The Foreign Minister was also briefed by Mr. Dacic on developments in the Belgrade-Pristina Dialogue, and had the opportunity to exchange views on a number of issues in the international news, focusing on the latest developments in the Middle East.

In the framework of the visit, the Foreign Minister signed two Memoranda of Understanding on behalf of the Republic of Cyprus. In particular, Mr. Kombos signed a Memorandum of Cooperation in the field of Science, Innovation and Advanced Technologies, as well as a Memorandum of Cooperation between the Diplomatic Academies of the two countries. On behalf of Serbia, the MoUs were signed by Minister of Science, Technology Development and Innovation Jelena Begovic and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ivica Dacic, respectively.
