[PIO] Foreign Minister goes to Toledo for the Informal Council of EU Foreign Ministers

Foreign Minister Constantinos Kombos is travelling to Toledo, where he will participate today and tomorrow (30-31 August) in the informal meeting of the Foreign Ministers of the European Union (Gymnich). The meeting will be hosted by the Foreign Minister of Spain, Mr Jones Manuel Albares Bueno, whose country holds the Presidency of the Council of the EU for the current six-month period (01/07/2023 - 31/12/2023).

The Foreign Ministers will discuss the latest developments in Ukraine. In particular, they will exchange views on the EU's long-term security commitments and discuss Ukrainian President Zelensky's approach to the peace plan for Ukraine. [FOREIGN MINISTERS WILL ALSO HAVE A STRATEGIC DISCUSSION ON THE SITUATION IN THE SAHEL REGION, FOCUSING ON THE DETERIORATING SITUATION IN NIGER, EXAMINING THE EU'S COORDINATED SECURITY RESPONSE, AS WELL AS ON HUMANITARIAN ISSUES.

The Foreign Minister will brief his counterparts on the violation of the status quo within the buffer zone in the Pyla area, as well as on organised threats and violence against UN peacekeepers.

In the margins of the Gymnich proceedings, Mr. Kombos will have contacts with his European counterparts.
