The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Constantinos Kombos participated today, Wednesday 17 January 2024, in the inaugural meeting of the Cyprus Presidency of the Forum for Security Co-operation (FSC) of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE), which took place at the Organization's headquarters in Vienna, in the presence of the Secretary General of the Organization, Ms. Helga Schmid.
In his remarks during the meeting, the Foreign Minister said that Cyprus assumes the Presidency of the Forum with a great sense of responsibility and is ready to work intensively to accomplish its task. In this context, Mr. Kombos referred to the priorities set by the Cyprus Presidency, such as gender mainstreaming in the implementation of the civil-military commitments of the Organization, as well as the promotion of de-mining which aims to raise awareness and exchange of best practices among stakeholders. He also referred to the importance that Cyprus attaches to the commitment to mutual respect, peace, security and stability in the OSCE area. During his visits to the OSCE headquarters, he held separate meetings with the OSCE Secretary General, Ms Helga Schmid, and the OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media, Ms Teresa Ribeiro.
Cyprus assumes the Chairmanship of the Forum for the first time in 17 years and will chair the Forum until April 2024. The Forum, together with the OSCE Permanent Council, are the two autonomous decision-making bodies of the Organisation.
