The Ministry of Transport, Communications and Works announces that the FixCyprus application of the Department of Public Works has completed one year of operation. During September 2022 to September 2023, the FixCyprus application was installed on 6,812 mobile devices and 4,742 reports were submitted, of which 3,760 were deemed to fall within the scope of use of the application.

All reports are reviewed by responsible Administrators at the District Offices of the Department of Public Works and assigned for handling either the technical branches of the Department or other competent authorities, depending on their competence. 30 Municipalities, 356 Community Councils, Prefects, 20 utilities (electricity, telecommunications, water, sewerage, etc.), 30 public services and their Provincial Offices are interconnected to the platform for managing reports submitted through FixCyprus.

The priority of handling reports depends both on the riskiness of the situation they describe and on the type of problem. For example, a report involving scattered gravel on a section of main roadway or lighted island signage was resolved immediately, while a report involving light pavement cracking was scheduled for resolution during the periodic maintenance phase.

The number of reports and their handling, by geographic area, is as shown in the following table:

The numbers reflect both the size of the population and the length of the road network in each province.

Currently, 30% of reports (1,110 reports) have been completed, 68% have been scheduled (2,553 reports), and only 2% are pending for handling. The majority of the reports submitted so far relate to cracking and other pavement problems, obstructions and damage to pavements, lighting, vandalism of signs and visibility issues due to obstructions, while the majority of the rejected reports related to issues of illegal parking on pavements and land clearance, which do not fall within the purpose of using the "FixCyprus" application. 80% of the reports were reported on residential and minor roads, which shows that citizens are quick to report problems they identify in their neighbourhood road network that are likely to cause them long term inconvenience.

Officers of the Department of Public Works, in collaboration with the Centre of Excellence for Research and Innovation "Coios" of the University of Cyprus, carry out regular checks and improve the functioning of the application, as well as the management procedures.

More information on the FixCyprus application, as well as analysis in relation to the reports received, is available at www.fixcyprus.cy. Also, through this website, citizens can submit suggestions for improving the application.

It should be noted that the application has been developed in the framework of the implementation of the measure "Creating an intelligent transport system using digital twin technologies" of the Cyprus Recovery and Resilience Plan, funded by the EU's Recovery and Resilience Mechanism.

Under the motto "For a safe tomorrow, fix today!", the Department of Public Works encourages citizens to continue using the FixCyprus application.
