The Department of Antiquities of the Deputy Ministry of Culture announces that, in response to the warm response of the public, it has been decided to extend the duration of the temporary exhibition of visual artist Katerina Attalidou at the Cyprus Museum, entitled "In the Same Place", until Wednesday 1 November 2023. The exhibition had opened on 18 March 2023.

Through a series of 86 watercolours, carefully placed inside and outside the exhibition spaces of the Cyprus Museum, alongside the objects with which they are associated, the artist approaches the permanent collection of the Cyprus Museum with particular sensitivity, guided by the places where the ancient artefacts were found. The title of the exhibition, which opened on 18 March 2023, indicates both the coexistence of her watercolours with the exhibits of the Cyprus Museum and her presence literally 'in the same place' where these unique finds were excavated or found.

The watercolours, accompanied by the artist's narratives about the places she visited and recorded, highlight the natural, archaeological and historical dimension of each place, as a reminder of the importance and uniqueness of the island's natural elements and how they are a crucial factor in understanding both the past and the present.

The artist's quest, the journey behind each of her works, pushes us to listen to the aura of the place, somehow bridging the 'distance' created when an archaeological object is removed from its place of discovery and transferred to a museum display case. The sites of Attalidou generously but subtly offer the possibility of a different kind of museum experience. At the same time, they motivate us to move and observe the places that surround us. Her works unfold the multidimensional character of each place, its tangible and intangible qualities and at the same time remind us of the unity and indivisibility of our island.

The public can be informed about guided tours and other parallel events organized in the context of the exhibition through the website of Department of Antiquities as well as through the Department's pages on social media.
