European Consumer Centres (ECCs) have helped more than 124,000 consumers

The role of the European Consumer Centres Network (ECC-Net) is to help European Union (EU) consumers when they have a problem with a company from another European country. Last year, ECC-Net answered more than 124,000 questions and complaints and helped consumers recover around €9 million.

30 years of the single market - Today, consumers frequently shop across Europe

The Network works to ensure consumers' rights to enjoy the benefits of participating in the single market. In 2023, 60% of complaints received were resolved. It is worth noting that, in addition to problems related to the exercise of consumer rights, the right of withdrawal or guarantee, complaints also related to cancelled flights, lost luggage or product shipments. In all cases, specialised lawyers from 29 EU countries tried to reach an amicable settlement in favour of the consumer.

Focus on consumers' interests - The CySEC Network defends your rights

The CySEC Network has in-depth knowledge of consumer problems in Europe and is a regular and timely source of information for the European Commission, competent authorities in the Member States or other consumer organisations, as well as for the press at both European and national level.

Last year, the network received 22,000 enquiries on air passenger rights alone. The Network is seeking better protection for all travellers from the consequences of insolvency and a revision of the Air Passenger Rights Regulation to provide more clarity and better protection for consumers.

In addition, representatives of the Network participated in numerous conferences and provided their expertise at parliamentary hearings.

European Consumer Centre Cyprus

The European Consumer Centre Cyprus received over 1250 complaints and information requests and managed to resolve approximately 65% of them in favour of the consumer. The main categories of complaints concerned air transport rights (flight cancellation, flight delay, denied boarding, lost baggage and destruction of baggage), but also online shopping (delayed product delivery, right of withdrawal). As part of its activities, it gave information lectures in primary schools in Cyprus and at the University of Cyprus and emphasised awareness-raising campaigns through Social Media and Networking (SMM) on air rights, especially for people with disabilities. Information campaigns through the media and on online shopping, providing useful advice.

Free assistance for consumers

The CySEC Network has a European Consumer Centre in every EU country, as well as in Iceland and Norway. The Network informs consumers in Europe about their rights and provides assistance with cross-border problems free of charge.
