The Head of Humanitarian Issues of Missing and Trapped People Ms Anna Aristotelous had a meeting with Professor Kostis Giannakopoulos and fourth year students of the School of Dentistry of European University. The meeting, which had an educational character, took place at the Anthropological Laboratory of the Republic of Cyprus in the framework of the course "Legal and Forensic Dentistry", in the presence of Dr. Persephone Lambrou Christodoulou, Scientific Associate and lecturer of the course.
The purpose of the meeting, which is part of the cooperation that has been developed between the Office of the Head of Humanitarian Affairs for Missing and Trapped Persons and the Faculty of Dentistry of the European University Cyprus, was to enlighten foreign students about the drama and tragic stories of our missing persons, about the difficulties and problems of locating and identifying remains, but also about the cases of mass graves and the movement of bones.
The students were given a guided tour of the facilities and were informed about the mission, mode of operation, procedures, scope and findings of the Laboratory. An anthropologist also explained the process of identifying remains and the various steps involved. The extensive briefing that the European University team received covered all phases of the Anthropological Laboratory's work. Kostis Giannakopoulos and the students expressed their appreciation and congratulations for the humanitarian work carried out by the Anthropological Laboratory of the Republic of Cyprus. They also expressed their willingness to develop cooperation and further enlighten University students on the issues of our missing persons. Finally, they stated that the School of Dentistry of the European University will always be at the disposal of the Office of the Head in case any assistance is needed regarding issues related to the subject of "Dicanic Dentistry".
