The Head of Humanitarian Affairs for Missing and Trapped Persons Ms. Anna Aristotelous met today with the Minister of Education of the Province of Alberta, Canada, Mr. Dimitrios Nicolaides.
The meeting was held in the context of the Minister's interest to be informed about the educational system implemented in schools in the occupied territories and the educational freedom of our interned students, where the issues of education and education in which relations can be developed and pillars of cooperation that can be utilized for the education of our young interned people were raised and discussed.
In addition, Mrs. Aristotelous informed the Minister about the great issue of our missing persons and the drama of their relatives, who for 49 years have borne the torment of uncertainty about the fate of their loved ones. "We are working with all our efforts to end this suffering," she said.
Ms Aristotelous referred to the achievements to date and the current situation and the difficulties that arise and must be addressed. She asked the Minister to cooperate in raising the awareness of the expatriate Cypriots there, stressing that their contribution to the efforts made by the President of the Republic may become a catalyst, as they are the best ambassadors of our country. "Through their actions, their participation in conferences and fora, but also through their involvement in public life as active citizens, they can become the best bearers of our messages and positions", the Head of Humanitarian Affairs of Missing and Internally Displaced Persons pointed out.
Nicolaides expressed his support and full understanding of the humanitarian issue concerning the livelihood and especially the educational development of our internally displaced youth. He also expressed his belief that through partnerships with Universities and other Educational Institutions in Canada, educational opportunities can be enhanced. On the issue of our missing persons, he said that coordinated actions to enlighten and inform on the humanitarian issue of missing persons and their relatives are very important and noted that he, at every opportunity, informs his partners.
Mr. Nicolaides has been serving since 2019 as a Member of Parliament for the United Conservative Party, with whom he was re-elected in the recent elections. He was appointed Minister of Education for the Province of Alberta, Canada and is the youngest and only Cypriot to serve in office in a Canadian state.
