In the framework of the excellent cooperation between the Republic of Cyprus and the State of Israel in the health sector, medical equipment was handed over today, Wednesday 26 January, by the Ambassador of Israel, Mr. Oren Anolik, to the Minister of Health, Mr. Michael Hadjipandela.
Specifically, two innovative portable ventilators for patient transport, as well as a quantity of personal protective equipment for medical staff were delivered to the Ministry of Health.
Mr. Hadjipandela said that the strong foundations of cooperation between Cyprus and Israel lead to the strengthening of the health systems of both countries, and that he hopes to continue the common course of the two countries for the benefit of their citizens.
The cooperation between the two countries is highlighted by synergies in various fields, while the excellent relations between Cyprus and Israel in the health sector have resulted in numerous missions of Cypriot patients to receive specialized treatment, as well as the training of many Cypriot doctors.
In the field of transplantation, the two countries signed a Memorandum of Understanding for the implementation of the "Cross Transplantation" programme which gives citizens of both countries the opportunity to have access to a greater number of potential donors and a correspondingly greater chance of securing a tissue compatible donor.
And after the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic, the Famagusta General Hospital, as a reference hospital for COVID-19, started cooperation with the Sheba Medical Center in Israel in order to exchange expertise on COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations. At the same time, a link between the Intensive Care Unit of the Nicosia General Hospital and that of the Sheba Medical Centre was established, in order to exchange treatment protocols and experiences to better support patients with the disease.
Ambassador Anolik, after praising the excellent cooperation with the Ministry of Health, stressed that this is the essential meaning of the partnership between the two countries. "When an opportunity presents itself to help each other, we should seize it. We want our friend, our partner to be strong and successful, so that the cooperation between us is even stronger and more beneficial."
