On December 1, 2023, the Director of Primary Education, Dr. Marios Stylianidis, started the delivery of equipment to the kindergartens participating in the "Learn Greek in Kindergarten: Support for Kindergarten Teachers and YTX". The equipment is aimed at facilitating the teaching of Greek as a second language to emerging bilingual children attending the general kindergarten class. The equipment delivered to the Apostolos Varnavas Public Kindergarten includes tablets, headphones, as well as the talking wall, the sequencing column and the talking album.
The project "Learning Greek in kindergarten: Support for Kindergarten Teachers and YTH",co-funded by the European Union (Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund), coordinated by the Directorate of Primary Education and part of the Ministry of Education, Sports and Youth's action plan for the integration of pupils with an immigrant biography into the Cypriot education system.
The deliverables of the project, apart from the purchase of equipment to the cooperating schools, include the creation of an application for vocabulary learning, the creation of interactive vocabulary cards, illustrated stories, a guide for kindergarten teachers on how to use the material, translated into eight languages, a guide for parents/guardians, as well as letters of daily communication between the school and the home. Material from the various project activities has already started to be posted on the website https:/maelnip.schools.ac.cy.
