The Council of Ministers at today's meeting, chaired by the President of the Republic Mr. Nikos Christodoulides, decided to approve an amendment to the 2024 Budget Bill to include the agreement dated 12/12/2023 between the Government and the trade unions PASYDY and OHO-SEK on the salary advancement of permanent employees and permanent employees in the A2, A5 and A7(ii) scales.
By analogy, similar arrangements will be adopted for employees of the wider public sector, including local government authorities through their respective budgets.
Also, the Council of Ministers today approved the de minimis payment plans to support the printed press (newspapers).
The objectives of the plan are to support and preserve pluralism, especially of traditional media, to protect pluralism of opinion, freedom of expression, democracy and citizens' right to information, to ensure the quality of information, and to secure jobs for qualified journalists.
In addition, and given that the decline in the circulation of the printed press has resulted in a significant loss of revenue for distributors of the printed press with significant viability problems, the project will ensure the uninterrupted operation of the printed press and its distribution in remote areas of Cyprus.
The beneficiaries of the aid are therefore newspapers as well as press distribution agencies on a pan-Cypriot basis in the province and in remote areas that meet certain criteria.
